Summary The article, "When you throw a party and nobody comes", is about a group, PCTA, who throws parties and no one attends. The group could not understand the lack of attendance. PCTA never once considered their party throwing skills were the problem. The group came up with three possible factors of the lack of attendance. The first being isolation from big population. The second being isolation from big roads. The last factor being isolation from a social scene. With those possible problems the PCTA also came up with possible solutions. The solutions include: hold more parties, more outreach, and send experienced volunteers from other sections of the trail to lead and mentor new local volunteers in isolated areas. Questions 1. Putting chapter 29 in Jefferson's point of view gave readers an insight on Jefferson's feelings. Telling Jefferson's point of view made the book personal and gave readers an emotional feeling. Since Jefferson did not speak to much throughout the book, putting his personal thoughts in the book finally help me understand what kind of person Jefferson really was. Jefferson thoughts help my come to the conclusion that he is not a hog, but in fact a human with emotions. Describing in depth how Jefferson's execution day went sent my emotions in a spiral. I feel as though Grant should have been there for Jefferson's execution because Jefferson trusted Grant the most. "He thought of them as part of his life being blown away in wispy sections, leaving vast, open areas of complete emptiness, as in his own life" (Pg 68) This quote represents the themes loneliness and suffering. Kien has no family he can confide in, resulting in him suffering postwar trauma alone. The setting in which the scene of this quote takes place is lonely and calm. 2. " Nothing lasted forever in this world, he knew that. Even love and sorrow inside an aging man would finally dissipate under the realization that his suffering, his tortured thoughts, were small and meaningless in the overall scheme of things." (Pg 71) This quote relates to the theme hope. Kien realizes that the problems he are facing today probably will not matter in about ten years. This quote characterize Kien. Although Kien is facing many postwar problems he is not letting them make him give up hope on a better future.
